GTA 6 is one of the most hyped games in recent memory and after years of teasers and hints, Rockstar finally gave us some real info. With the storyline, location, characters, and release window confirmed, here’s everything we know so far about Grand Theft Auto 6.
GTA 6 Setting: Vice City and Beyond
GTA 6 will take us back to fan favorite Vice City, the GTA version of Miami. But it’s not just a nostalgia trip; this time Vice City is modern-day, with neon streets and a realistic South Florida setting. The map will be bigger than ever, potentially including rural areas and swamps inspired by Florida’s weird landscapes.
Storyline:
The two main characters of GTA 6, Jason and Lucia, will bring a new dynamic to the series. Instead of the trio from GTA V, we’ll get a duo that has been compared to Bonnie and Clyde. Jason and Lucia’s relationship is romance and crime, so expect exciting times.
Gameplay footage from a 2022 leak showed them robbing diners, dodging police, and navigating Vice City’s underworld together. Lucia will also be the first female protagonist in a mainline GTA game, a big step for Rockstar in terms of character diversity.

The story is still under wraps but Rockstar wants to go deeper with character-driven experiences. Jason and Lucia’s story will likely have trust issues, intense heists, and the usual GTA humor and satire, all while exploring loyalty and survival. This “Bonnie and Clyde” vibe could mean a grittier story where each character has their own perspective and moral code, adding complexity to the game.
GTA 6 Release Date and Platforms
Rockstar has officially narrowed the release window to fall 2025. This was announced in May 2024 with Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick confirming Rockstar is on track to hit this target. While that may seem like a long time, Rockstar is taking their time as they always do with big games.
GTA 6 will initially be on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with no PC release announced yet. Rockstar usually releases PC versions of their games months or even years after the console launch so PC players may have to wait a bit longer.
Trailer and First Look
The first official trailer for GTA 6 was supposed to drop on December 5, 2023, but fans got an early look thanks to a leak. The trailer showed Jason and Lucia in action, beaches, streets, and even a swampy area, giving us a glimpse of the game’s varied environments. The trailer also showed new gameplay mechanics and the level of detail Rockstar is known for.
GTA 6 is all about setting new bars in immersion. Since the announcement in 2022, Rockstar has been teasing a super detailed world, probably building on the gameplay mechanics of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Leaks have shown realistic animations and some devs have said AI-driven interactions could make NPC’s more alive than ever.
Vice City and the surrounding areas are massive so you can expect a mix of urban, suburban, and rural environments. Rockstar might also introduce a dynamic weather system or day/night cycle to make the city feel alive.
As we get closer to 2025 the hype for GTA 6 is getting bigger. With a great story, favorite setting, and new protagonists GTA VI is looking like another big one from Rockstar. While the wait for more trailers and gameplay is tough, at least we know GTA VI will be the ultimate open-world game.
